The UK's biggest insurance firm has continued to simplify its IT infrastructure and reduce the amount of network equipment it holds in house by outsourcing.
In its latest financial results, the company said that consolidation of its IT services is continuing at pace.
With the aim of reducing costs and boosting efficiency, the firm said it is outsourcing a large portion of its business to reinsurer Swiss Re.
Aviva recently completed the migration of its Lifetime back-office administration systems to Scottish Friendly.
Scottish Friendly is also moving the firm's wrap platform to its existing IT setup and Aviva has signed a £700 million deal with EDS that will allow it to focus on more business critical areas and reduce IT spending, the company states.
"We see infrastructure increasingly becoming a commodity as we move towards a lot more virtualisation and service-based environments, and especially during the current economic conditions," Malcolm Simpkins, UK IT services director at Aviva said.
Aviva's global sales rose by five per cent in the first quarter of 2009.
