Avaya enhances end-to-end SIP

Avaya enhances end-to-end SIPAvaya has released a number of new additions to its market-leading IP telephony solutions.

The enhancements will deliver advanced Intelligent Communications capabilities which will use end-to-end, full-featured Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

It includes the newest version of Avaya Communication Manager 5.0 – the company's flagship software which allows enterprises to gain essential telephony functions using end-to-end SIP.

It is hoped that the product will help companies become more cost-efficient and enable them to increase productivity at a time when the workforce is becoming increasingly mobile.

Simon Woollett, vice president and general manager of the converged communications division at Avaya, said: "Businesses expect enterprise-class communications to be reliable, feature-rich and always-on.

"Avaya now delivers on these expectations in the open SIP world, enabling companies to more easily and cost-effectively deploy next generation applications such as customer service and unified communications – and gain maximum impact from them."

Jim Middleton, senior solution architect at Xeta Technologies, which uses Avaya SIP, praised the product because it gets rid of the need to program each SIP phone on a network individually, but rather through direct download.

He added: "The new advancements eliminate the need for a separate application server for SIP. We see SIP reducing deployment costs by about $5,000 for every one hundred users, making enterprise communications far more affordable than ever before."
