APC moves further into portable data centre market - Networking Industry NewsAPC is planning to make more moves in the portable data centre market after already partnering with a number of firms.

Computerworld reports that the company, which is owned by Schneider Electric, may offer generators and chillers suitable for the market.

Steve Carlini, director of product management at APC, told the website that the company would soon announce its plans to sell modular infrastructure products, perhaps partnering with other companies.

Portable data centres, typically housed in shipping containers, are seen as a viable solution for businesses and organisations that need a facility deployed quickly and ready to use, fully equipped with loaded server racks.

APC recently extended its partnership to provide solutions from its InfraStruXure range for IBM's Portable Modular Data Centres.

Another company to have entered the market for this type of networking solution is HP, which has recently unveiled a smaller version of its Performance-Optimized Datacenter.
