Using virtualisation to improve data centre efficiency is a major appeal for those looking to outsource their IT, it has been claimed.
According to Nebulas Solutions, new hardware which can automatically start up and power down servers on demand will only add to the potential environmental benefits modern data centres can offer.
The company's managing director Nick Garlick said that making data centre infrastructure, such as server cabinets and switches, more efficient can also have financial benefits especially during the credit crunch.
Mr Garlick said: "Virtual machines already offer cost savings, but by adding this level of automatic provisioning, systems can become far more responsive to the demands of the business."
Earlier this week, Microsoft announced it was trialling the use of netbook processors in its data centres in a bid to reduce energy consumption and cut costs.
The company claims that netbook processors use between one-fifth and one-tenth of the power of traditional server processors.
