Business intelligence market tops $12bn in 2011 - Data & Server Racks

The global business intelligence (BI), analytics and performance management (PM) software sector topped $12 billion in 2011, according to a study by Gartner.

The figure is a 16.4 per cent jump on 2010 revenue of $10.5 billion, the firm said.

Across the entire enterprise software segment, the BI, analytics and PM software market was the second-fastest-growing sector.

Network equipment manufacturers SAP, Oracle, SAS Institute, IBM and Microsoft were the top five vendors, who consolidated the market through acquisition, integration and upsell/cross-sell activity.

SAP remained the number one network equipment vendor, with 24 per cent of the market.

"BI, analytics and PM have been identified as one way to filter vast and growing amounts of information to reach insights and decisions in the digitized world, which is transforming industry after industry," said Dan Sommer, principal analyst at Gartner.

According to recent research by Synergy, cloud equipment revenues reached 10.6 billion during the final quarter of 2011.
