A networking expert has stressed the importance of testing cabling to ensure that transmission capabilities are kept up.
Writing for PC Quest, Rahul Sah explains why it is so crucial and how not testing can lead to reliability issues.
He also points out that there are many network tools that can be used to check performance variances, signal strengths, resistance, cross-talk and attenuation.
Sah adds: "Structured cabling is mostly seen as a one time investment by many organisations. However, about 78 per cent of the network related issues are because of the faults in the cabling infrastructure.
"While implementing structured cabling, organisations need to understand the data transmission requirements for future."
The Ideal Industries LanTEK II cable tester was recently approved for use by Tyco and Brand-Rex for their own Cat5e and Cat6 cable solutions.
Both companies confirmed its reliability with Tyco saying it was particularly impressed with the accuracy levels of key electric parameters, which exceeded expectations.
