Businesses have been urged to look at their uninterrupted power supply (UPS) capabilities to make sure they are protected against power cuts and surges.
APC has looked at the issue and pointed out that sporting events such as the World Cup can put huge demands on power supplies, meaning businesses need to have the right systems in place to deal with such situations.
It has suggested that businesses upgrade their UPS so that it can deal with longer standby periods, while detailing how intelligent solutions are capable of safely shutting down operating systems
Gina Santos, distribution account manager for Southern Africa at APC by Schneider Electric, explained the importance of UPS solutions.
She said: "Power problems have a significant impact, both in terms of damage to hardware and the loss of data.
"This is especially true for individuals and small to medium businesses who may not have taken the time to prepare a disaster plan to combat this type of issue."
The World Cup will conclude on July 11th, when the finalists meet in Johannesburg.
