The market for Voice over IP (VoIP) services is likely to double in size over the next five years, a new report predicts.
According to ABI Research, the overall market, which includes VoIP integrated access, SIP trunking, hosted IP-PBX and managed IP-PBX services, will exceed $20 billion (£12.6 billion) by 2015.
Last year, both the volume and value of VoIP services experienced strong levels of growth, despite the global recession.
This growth is expected to continue in the years ahead as organisations look to outsource their communications infrastructure, ABI forecast.
"Overall, the growth momentum seen in 2009 was sustained in the first half of 2010 as companies continued to shy away from capital investments, opting, instead, for the OPEX model of hosted VoIP services," said senior analyst Subha Rama.
"Among VoIP access technologies, SIP trunking has seen considerable growth in terms of installed base and revenues in the last 12 to 18 months," she added.
