Level 3 Communications has unveiled a new managed session border controller (SBC) for SIP trunking.
According to the firm, the technology will enhance network security and "unlock the cost-efficiency and scalability of IP voice technology.
Sara Baack, senior vice-president of voice services for the firm, asserted that the new technology performs the role of a "security guard", protecting the IP network against attacks.
Businesses using network equipment to connect computers holding critical data may want to invest in the SIP trunking controller to improve the network traffic efficiency.
"By providing managed SBC with our SIP trunking solution, we are enabling enterprises to confidently and securely transition to network platforms that help them capitalise on the benefits of converged communications," Ms Baack stated.
Last month, director of MWR InfoSecurity Alex Fidgen asserted that small and medium-sized enterprises are likely to see audits of data security become an increasingly common part of the procurement process.
