Network managers 'unsure of network tool capabilities'

Network managers 'unsure of network tool capabilities'Just 16 per cent of network professionals are certain that their network tools are capable of monitoring network activities sufficiently to comply with imposed government targets, it has been revealed.

A survey conducted by Network Instruments of 125 industry professionals based in both Europe and North America found that, in all, 40 per cent of those polled considered their ability to identify network security breaches was inadequate.

It has also been noted that government regulations will increasingly impact on IT managers' remit.

"Undoubtedly, compliance has an influential impact on the entire IT infrastructure," said Ian Cummins, European sales director for Network Instruments, the Channel Show reports.

"Effective retrospective analysis, monitoring and troubleshooting tools can help support IT's role in compliance by providing a mechanism for monitoring and documenting financial and other activity on the network, streamlining the enforcement process and providing network managers with the ability to validate and provide evidence for compliance and security issues."
