Sun Microsystems updates x64 - Network Accessories Network equipment manufacturer Sun Microsystems has updated its x64 rack and blade systems.

The company has added solid state drive flash technology to the devices and claims the move will allow for response times which are 65 times quicker.

Sun's x64 servers are mountable in server racks and server cabinets and the company claims it is pioneering the adoption of flash technology in the data centre sector.

John Fowler, executive vice-president of Sun Microsystems' Systems Group, said: "Sun's innovative x64 and chip multi thread server designs with the Solaris OS push data centre efficiency to its limits."

He added that the addition of flash technology to its servers will "blow the doors off with huge performance increases, greater cost efficiencies and savings in power consumption".

Sun is not the only company making use of flash technology, with Texas Memory Systems introducing the largest PCI-Express solid state drive on the market.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19073936-ADNFCR
