Chief technical officer (CTO) of Solarflare Dr George Zimmerman is set to give a talk on the energy efficiency of its 10GBASE-T transceiver at the Solid-State Circuits Conference in San Francisco.
Tomorrow (February 12th), the CTO will focus on the companies drive to minimise the power consumption and maximise the performance and utility of a single-chip 10GBASE-T solution.
Under the title of Complexity, utility and energy efficiency for copper Ethernet at 10Gb/s and beyond, Dr Zimmerman will review the tradeoffs between Ethernet standards and performance.
Solarflare designs and develops high-performance low-power-consumption 10Gbit Ethernet networking equipment.
The firms latest transceiver supports data transfer distances of 55 metres using Cat6 cables and 45 metres using Cat5e leads.
Solarflare is a privately owned company with headquarters in Irvine, California, and a research centre in Cambridge.
According to the firm, the adoption of virtualisation and cloud computing is pushing growth in the 10Gbit Ethernet market.
