The importance of server room monitoring has been emphasised by a new report predicting the growth of the green data centre market.
According to Pike Research, the market will grow from $7.5 billion (£4.7 billion) in global revenue to $41.4 billion (£26.2 billion) by 2015 with the implementation of energy-efficiency strategies.
Eric Woods, an industry analyst at Pike Research, explained why being green is becoming so important to businesses and data centres.
"Cost of energy has seldom been a concern for IT departments in the past and there was little incentive to invest in energy efficiency improvements," he said.
"But as data centre energy costs become more visible, the financial benefits of moving to a greener mode of operation are being recognized [US spelling] by CEOs, CFOs, and CIOs."
Of course, one way for businesses to ensure that their networking is as green as possible is to put in place effective server room monitoring.
This can help to keep control of temperatures and energy consumption within data centres or server rooms.
