Repeater allows 800Mbit transmission over 100m - Network Accessories Point Grey Research's (PGR) latest FirePro long distance repeater allows for the 800Mbit transmission of data over distances as large as 100 metres.

The FirePro LDR is designed specifically to allow networking equipment to be connected over distances greater than the standard 4.5 metres using Cat6 leads, Cat5e cables or RJ45 leads.

Using a GigE physical layer, the device allows the transfer of FireWire data using GigE signalling.

The device features two repeaters, and is equipped with two bilingual nine-pin ports with screw locks and one RJ45 connector.

Housed in a 69 by 57 by 20 millimetre case, FirePower's LDR does not require any software or device drivers to get it working.

"The LDR gives vision system designers the best of both worlds by combining the reliability of FireWire with the cable length of GigE," says Vladimir Tucakov, director of sales and marketing at Point Grey Research.
