New research has shown that the economic recovery is well underway in the networking sector with many businesses looking to ramp up investment again.
According to the study by Infonetics Research, the ethernet switches grew by 15 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2009 to £2.8 billion.
Cisco's performance for the whole of 2009 was particularly noted as the company increased its revenue share by one point in the enterprise router market.
Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise voice and data with Infonetics, said: "The Ethernet switch, enterprise router, and wireless LAN equipment markets have improved significantly from the lows set in the first half of 2009 but are still down overall in 2009 compared to 2008.
"With the economic recovery underway, we expect sales to rise across the board in 2010 and beyond as companies make necessary infrastructure investments and slowly expand again."
The report also showed that Cisco had a 46 per cent share of the wireless LAN market in 2009.
Cisco recently unveiled its latest switches, the Catalyst 3750-X and 3560-X, aimed at helping customers accelerate business growth and increase flexibility.
