Network tools from GAO Comm - Network Accessories

Network tools from GAO Comm - Network AccessoriesA new handheld gigabit ethernet tester has been unveiled by GAO Comm, offering an accurate tool for field workers to analyse networks and locate faults.

The model 5850 complies with the IEEE 802.3, RFC1242 and RFC2544 standards, and can be used in the upkeep and repair of 10M/100M/1000M ethernet networks.

Among its functions are data packet capture, traffic generation, cable testing, BER testing and RFC-2544 benchmark testing, all running under either Windows 2000 or XP operating systems.

The network tool also has dual RJ45 ports, a jacket cover and tie-in protection, while a lanyard and stand enables the user to take advantage of hands-free viewing.

Vitally, it can help to identify short and open circuits in network cables and can be used to conduct connectivity tests, with all the results being shown on a colourful LCD screen in text or graphic format.

Networking expert Rahul Sah, writing for PC Quest, recently recommended the use of network tools to prevent reliability issues emerging in server rooms and data centres.
