Businesses are more likely to pay attention to vacancy candidates who have a wealth of IT experience, womenintechnology.co.uk has stated.
Maggie Berry, managing director of the website, pointed out that IT skills are always attractive to employers and this demand is set to grow as the industry develops.
"Students who invest in developing their IT skills are really going to stand out against the competition and have the best chance of launching a successful career in what is a rapidly growing and exciting industry," she explained.
"With the economy recovering in 2011 and more optimism amongst employers, I think we are definitely going to see an increase in IT jobs."
Ms Berry commented that women who go on IT training courses and have plenty of computer experience will have "no problem" in securing interviews for jobs because of the shortage of qualified female technicians.
