Small businesses have been told of the importance of network attached storage (NAS) devices to their future success.
In an article for Cisco, Leslie T. O'Neill has looked at the technology now available to firms of all sizes, detailing how it can help them organise and manage their storage needs.
She explains how devices, such as those from the Cisco NSS Series Smart Storage line, can centralise critical storage tasks with a single appliance, providing remote access and flexibility.
She adds: "For many small businesses, their success hinges on their data - and they know it. They can no longer afford to trust their information to local client devices and ad-hoc backups.
"That's why many small businesses are adopting a storage strategy that revolves around centralised network storage devices that are not only affordable, robust, and scalable but that also can be managed by in-house staff with limited IT expertise."
Computer peripherals manufacturer LaCie recently introduced the Network Space MAX, an NAS device that features RAID 1 security.
