New research has noted how businesses are increasingly seeing the benefits of SIP trunking services.
A report from Frost & Sullivan looks at how the technology, along with VoIP, saw a 40.1 per cent growth in user base and 22.3 per cent growth in revenues in 2009.
Furthermore, this growth is expected to continue as users seek to cut costs and converge their communications.
Frost & Sullivan programme director Elka Popova explained why more businesses will be buying network equipment to help them with the technology.
She said: "SIP trunking services are expected to gain momentum as companies increase their investments in IP-based communications applications and extend their unified communications environments beyond the enterprise to communicate with customers and partners.
"Evidence of the return on investment benefits of SIP trunking has encouraged a number of service providers to start promoting these services more strongly."
Alternative unified communications open to businesses include IP PBX, which can also be delivered as a hosted solution
