Businesses and homes with wireless networks have been urged to make sure they keep their equipment secure.
The issues of the security of wireless networks was recently raised after it emerged that Google had accidentally collected information being sent over them in Germany, even though it was just trying to get the network names.
Simon Pamplin, systems engineer and pre-sales manager in the UK and Ireland for Brocade, explained how it is important to secure networks and to protect them in a "controlled fashion".
He added: "You need to do forensic analysis of what happened so you can secure your network going forward.
"We've learnt over the years that people who break into networks, either by fair means or foul, are incredibly talented and resourceful people and always find the hole that you've plugged."
According to the Wi-Fi Alliance, more than 475 million Wi-Fi chipsets were shipped in 2009, while 74 per cent of people would like to use wireless networking to watch movies or television on any screen in their home.
