Companies are likely to find that KVM switches are "one of the most essential components" in their IT network infrastructure.
This is the view of expert Jason Bovberg, a senior editor at Windows IT Pro, who said these network accessories have a number of benefits.
"A KVM over IP switch gives you in-band or out-of-band access to system keyboard, video, and mouse functions, from any location at any time," he explained.
He pointed out that it will also enable companies to maintain and manage geographically diverse devices.
"KVM over IP switches give you BIOS-level control of connected servers and other network devices straight from any location," he added.
Indeed, the expert said that using these devices, firms can manage their entire IT infrastructure, including remote data centres, as though they were administering them locally.
However, he said that KVM switches can differ widely in terms of functionality, so it is important to choose the right devices to suit the infrastructure they will fit into.
