Home networking 'is expanding'

Home networking 'is expanding'Home networking, once used to share information on more than one PC, is increasingly being used to integrate a plethora of multimedia devices, it has been claimed.

According to Gijsbert van Helden, marketing manager at BMB, local area networks have evolved, reports hiddenwires.co.uk.

He told the news provider that modern networks tend to support any type of data stream including audio, video, VOIP and control signals.

In many cases, he added, wireless networking would be suitable, but added that many would not be able to support the high quality and high speeds afforded by wired data transfer systems.

He told the website: "We'd therefore recommend pulling multiple category cables to each room."

"Even if the category cable is not used for Ethernet devices," he added.

According to Simon Buddle, writing for hiddenwires.co.uk, CAT5/6 network cables are a bare minimum for high-speed networking and fibre-optics should be considered.
