Souriau has unveiled a range of high-speed ethernet connectors aimed at railway applications, offering high reliability ease of use.
The first Quadrax-contact connectors made for this particular market, there are seven dedicated ranges while around a hundred different layouts mean they can be adapted to a variety of railway applications.
Featuring copper cables and suitable for either new or upgraded stock, the connectors have already been fitted on some Alstom stock and in SNCF upgrade programmes, transmitting data according to MVB, WTB and ethernet protocols at speeds of up to one gigabyte per second.
The company said: "The development of the railway high-speed connector ranges with Quadrax contacts continues Souriau's standardisation policy: a single Quadrax contact design for all product ranges.
"Standardisation is a strong point of the Souriau connector ranges."
Microsemi Corporation and Tyco Electronics recently joined forces to produce an advanced RJ45 connector with built-in power over ethernet (PoE) technology.
It is aimed at reducing the cost, footprint and design-cycle time usually associated with the integration of PoE into ethernet switches.
