Hewlett Packard (HP) has launched its new Ethernet network connection module.
The electronics manufacturer aims to boost bandwidth with its Virtual Connect Flex-10 Ethernet module, which it claims can quadruple the number of network interface ports available.
HP claims by combining the Flex-10 with its ProLiant BL495c virtualisation blade it can feed four connections from one ten-gigabyte Ethernet switch port.
Phil McLean, industry standard server business development manager at HP, said the BL495c is "built for virtual workplaces" and ideal for firms needing "a large amount of internal storage".
He added: "In a virtual environment, you need to dedicate some network bandwidth to particular virtual machines, and this can prove difficult if your server has just two network interface ports."
Technology firm Cisco recently announced its Aggregations Services Router 9000, which it claims is a "mega-router" which has six times more capacity and is four times faster than any of its competitors.
