Verizon Business gets submarine cable system landing licenseVerizon Business has been given approval to activate and operate the Trans-Pacific Express submarine cable system in the US.

The company was granted a landing license by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), following an application for the license last year.

It will be the first next-generation undersea optical cable system linking the US to mainland China.

The system will use innovative optical technology and provide greater capacity and higher speeds to increase demand for IP, data and voice communications traffic.

John Killian, vice president of Verizon Business, said: "Our founding participation in the Trans-Pacific Express cable reflects our commitment to meet the evolving needs of our global customers.

"The next-generation undersea system, coupled with Verizon Business' other undersea and terrestrial cables, will provide our multinational customers doing business in the fast-growing Asia-Pacific region with data services that operate at faster speeds, with even more reliability and more route diversity."
