Tyco Electronics has launched a new power over ethernet (PoE) connector that gives users a high-density distributed power system delivery without the need to retool existing networks.
The Mag45 PoE meets IEEE 802.3AF/AT and PoETec specifications and combines a RJ45 connector with integrated gigabit magnetics and an embedded PoE Plus controller board, meaning data and power can be transmitted over existing Cat5 infrastructures.
With the ability to offer a high current capacity up to 600 mA per port, the product also includes a surge-protected system as well as a compact, EMI-optimized and thermal design.
Tyco believes the devices could lead to cost savings and will be particularly useful for applications such as switches, wireless access points and thin client computers.
The company recently introduced the TurboTwin Low Smoke Zero Halogen cables into its Madison range, offering offer high-speed connectivity for networking users while keeping signal integrity.
One of the key features of these cables is that, if exposed to fire, emissions of smoke and toxic gases would be kept to a minimum.
