Deutsch has developed a new composite RJ45 connector for use in Ethernet applications.
The new device makes standard Cat4, Cat5e and Cat6 cable connectors suitable for industrial, and in particular, military use.
They can be used on vehicles, aboard naval ships, on railways, radars and field data systems.
It offers corrosion resistance over and above its aluminium counterpart and is able to withstand more than 2,000 hours of salt spray.
The RJ45 connector is also 30 per cent lighter than those manufactured by rivals.
High performance shielding is achieved through the connector's integrated shell, which is connected to the metallic ground plate.
The plugs come with a Cat5e patch cord as standard, but are available without out for contractors wishing to use their own.
They also have a range of power contacts suitable for 60A, 150A and 300A applications.
According to Bill Woodruff, co-founder of network equipment manufacturer Aquantia, RJ45 is currently the dominant connector type used in the industry and is likely to remain the de facto choice in the future.
