Cisco increases earnings - Network AccessoriesNetworking giant Cisco has reported that earnings were up in the most recent quarter, largely down to increased demand from businesses.

The company, which creates switches for data centres, as well as other products and solutions, had net sales of $10.4 billion in the third quarter, up 27 per cent on the same period a year ago.

Meanwhile, profits rose by 62.6 per cent to $2.2 billion, bringing earnings per share to $0.37.

John Chambers, chairman and chief executive of Cisco, said: "Our financial results were outstanding, achieving record level revenue and earnings per share results. We witnessed a return to strong balanced growth across geographies, products and customer segments that we haven't seen since before the global economic challenges began.

"It is clear that our game plan for how to handle economic downturns is hitting on all cylinders."

Cisco recently unveiled a number of new products and solutions aimed at small businesses, including the 100 Series switches and the RV 120W Wireless-N VPN Firewall.
