New market research has established Cisco as the leader in the router and switches market.
A study carried out by Infonetics Research established that the firm was one of the biggest beneficiaries of continued growth in the switches market.
Michael Howard, co-founder and principal analyst for carrier and data centre networks at Infonetics Research, explained the figures behind Cisco's success.
He said: "Cisco is on a roll, bumping up their service provider IP core and edge router revenue by six per cent in the first quarter of 2010 compared to the previous quarter, and up 33 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2009.
"Smaller players Tellabs and NEC posted gains in the IP router segment, while many other vendors, notably Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, and Huawei, posted revenue declines."
Cisco recently announced that its profits had risen by 62.6 per cent in the most recent quarter, compared to the same period a year ago.
