Computer cable manufacturer B3 has acquired two companies in recent months - Tri-Wire and Crawley-based Blue Helix.
The latter firm supplies fibre optic patch cables and copper leads for firms involved in computer networking and data centres.
Tri-Wire specialises in producing copper wiring for customers setting up data centres as well as the automotive sector.
Kevin Sammuel, commercial director of B3, asserted that the acquisitions would strengthen the position of the company and will "complement" its portfolio.
"The acquisition of Blue Helix brings together a number of distinct product ranges that will help us become even more competitive in the internal networks marketplace," he stated.
He noted that Tri-Wire is the only dedicated copper wire manufacturer in the UK and Ireland and that it would help B3 to "secure a key product for the future".
Dorset may be in need of new fibre cables in the near future as the county council's cabinet is considering whether or not to invest £6.67 million on high-speed broadband to improve internet connections in the region.
