Network equipment manufacturer Advantech has launched a new power over Ethernet splitter aimed at the industrial sector.
The new EKI-2701PSI Industrial Power over Ethernet Splitter allows firms to connect devices to its network with a single cable which provides both data transmission functionality and power.
According to Data Week, the new technology is "useful for powering network devices and equipment, where it is inconvenient, expensive or unfeasible to supply power separately".
The new device supports 10/100 Base-T and Gigabit networking and uses a standard RJ45 connector to allow easy access to network infrastructure.
Meanwhile, recent research by the Dell'Oro Group (DG) showed that sales of Ethernet switches have suffered during the recession because firms have reigned in their IT spending.
According to the organisation, it will be difficult for the market to recover because of the severity of the decline in sales witnessed in the first quarter of 2009.
DG believes the sector will not start to expand until 2010.
