Network equipment manufacturer Netgear has unveiled a new powerline adapter aimed at home users.
The Netgear 85Mbps Powerline Switch Kit comes with two adapters, two Ethernet cables and is designed to allow the easy connection of up to four computers to a single network.
Referred to as a Switch Kit, as opposed to a Starter Kit, the device comes with four Ethernet ports and can be used to connect together televisions, games consoles and DVD players.
According to Tech Radar, the main disadvantage with the structured cabling solution is its low speed, which has already been superseded by Netgear with its 200Mbps Ethernet adapters.
"It doesn't offer the fastest throughput and you won't be able to use it for streaming HD content, but it is versatile and easy to use," the website said.
Earlier this year, Netgear launched the Home Theatre Internet Connection Kit, which is part of the company's award-winning home networking range.
