Network equipment manufacturer Netgear has designed a new appliance aimed at improving security without impacting on IT infrastructure performance.
According to Netgear, the ProSecure UTM deals with the issue of being offered reduced security performance in favour of increased network speeds.
"Vendors in the security industry are hiding a 'dirty little secret' from small businesses they offer solutions that use extremely limited AV signature sets or watered-down anti-spam techniques all in the name of speed," said Jason Leung, Netgear's senior product line manager for small business.
According to the firm, its ProSecure UTM device has between ten and 200 times the number of attack signatures offered by competitors but does not suffer from lack of speed as a result.
Juniper has just unveiled what it claims is the next generation in network infrastructure.
The new SRX240 gateway offers up to five times the security performance of its rivals and the company claims independent research shows its network equipment operating costs are 41 per cent lower than competitors.
