Thurrock district council has upgraded the cabling network in its Civic Offices in Grays, Essex.
Formerly, the building relied on a standard CAT3 cabling network, which was installed 16-years-ago, but the upgrade means the network will be connected with CAT6 cables improving the networks speed and reliability.
The new network will serve 800 employees at the council's headquarters.
Steve Liddiard, ICT client manager at Thurrock council, said: "Our new network is performing well and our employees were unaware of the work it was a great result."
He had received numerous complaints about the old network, with users experiencing slow access speeds and varied reliability.
Priority was given to the council's 120-strong Sustainable Communities team, who work with large amounts of data such as architects' plans and mapping software.
In related news, London's 2012 Olympic Park will benefit from the country's first high speed fibre optic network, it has been reported.
