A hotel in the US is future-proofing itself against increases in network usage among its customers by installing Cat6 Ethernet cables and wireless-N Wi-Fi across throughout its premises.
According to Focus on Travel News, it is extra important that this hotel stays on the crest of the hi-tech wave because of its location – in the heart of Silicon Valley.
The Santa Clara Marriott is installing the system as part of its new meeting facilities, and expects the hotel-wide network upgrade to be completed by the end of the month.
Although Cat5 and Cat5e cables are still more than capable of handling most network traffic in a timely manner, Cat6 offers more benefits than simply its higher frequencies and support for 10GBase-T networks.
These include improved standards to reduce crosstalk in cabling and system noise.
Cat6 cables are generally also completely backwards compatible with Cat5e, making it easy to upgrade a network in stages, a more cost-effective solution for smaller organisations and businesses.
