Network equipment manufacturer Harting has released a new range of hybrid cables which combine power and data transmission in a single lead.
The Profinet series can transmit up to 24V of power as well as distributing data.
Hartling's latest addition to its cabling range uses a standard RJ45 connector and the company claims it can significantly reduce installation time on site.
The Cat5 leads support data communications between frequencies of five and 1,000MHz and the company claims they can be stripped quickly despite being protected by a rugged FRNC-based sheathing material.
According to Harting, the cables are suitable for use in harsh industrial environments, are RoHS compliant and UL approved.
Meanwhile, Microsemi, a manufacturer of integrated circuits has announced a new standard for energy efficient power over Ethernet, which the firm hopes will receive wide-spread acceptance.
The company's Green PoE certification programme recognises power over Ethernet components which are above the 75th percentile in terms of energy efficiency.
