Nine providers signed to optical network

Nine providers signed to optical networkThe operator of a fibre optic network being built to bring next generation communications to North Wales has signed up nine service providers ahead of its official launch, it has been reported.

Fibrespeed, which will use its network to connect dozens of business parks in the country, said the £30 million worth of investment would supply world-class broadband at highly competitive rates, according to the Daily Post.

The fibre optic technology will have the potential to connect around 50 business locations in the region and will cover more than 200 miles from Holyhead to Wrexham, the paper states.

Eventually it will be connected to the UK's fibre backbone in Manchester, according to the news provider.

Mike Johnston, Fibrespeed project director, said: "Businesses in the region are crying out for services such as high-speed data or unified communications."

In related news, BT could put a stop to its £1.5 billion plan to introduce a high-speed network in the UK.
