Sumitomo Electric Industries has announced a new cable system that promises low attenuation and bending loss and high proof stress levels.
The PureAccess-R5 is fully ITU-T G.657.B3-compliant as well as being compatible with G.652 and is ideal for data centre applications.
In addition to this, the company insists that the cable can handle twice as much stress as other commercially available G.657 fibres, with a lower probability of a stress fracture when deployed under bending strain at 5mm bends.
Shigeki Endo, general manager for the optical fibre & cable division at Sumitomo Electric, said: "Our global leadership in the technology of fibre optics has resulted in a fibre that demonstrates both outstanding strength and bend insensitive capabilities."
He added that the flexibility of the fibre can result in decreased deployment time and costs.
Eurotech Technologies recently introduced the BestNet fibre optic cable, a solution for long-distance communications, LAN and subscriber network systems.
