New Ethernet card supports copper and fibre - Network CablesA new dual port Ethernet appliance from Portwell Technology has been launched which supports both standard copper and fibre optic leads.

The firm claims that the new CAR-3000 Dual-Port 10G Network Card, is the ideal solution for small and medium-sized businesses who want to make a seamless transition from standard Cat5 or Cat6 leads to new fibre optic cables.

Portwell Technology's CAR-3000 is based on the Intel G41 Express chipset and offers wide-ranging processor support.

Taking up 1U of server rack or server cabinet space, the device can host up to 4GB of memory and either one 3.5-inch or two 2.5-inch Sata hard disc or solid state drives.

It has op to six gigabit compatible RJ45 ports and a modular PCI-E interface for maximum flexibility.

Mark Huang, Portwell Technology's product marketing manager, said: "We wanted to include in this product with as many options as we could and that naturally led us to think modular."
