Icron Technologies has unveiled a series of new USB 2.0 cables that allow connectivity over up to ten kilometres.
The 2200 series of cables has been added to the USB Ranger family, providing high-speed connections when they are needed over a distance of more than five metres.
Using the company's ExtremeUSB technology, they are able to transfer data at a rate of 480Mbps, making them particularly suitable for industrial, commercial and medical connectivity applications.
Brian Donnelly, VP of Marketing and Business Development, believes the new products are cost-effective and will open up new markets for the company.
He added: "The Ranger 2200 product series represent the culmination of a long term strategy to provide a scalable, robust USB 2.0 extension platform to address the wide variety of use cases our customers find for our products."
Next generation USB 3.0 is already being deployed within the IT sector, with Dell recently integrating support for it in the Precision M6500 laptop.
