Businesses using fibre cables in the south-east town of Woodley are set to get superfast broadband access with BT's rollout of the necessary infrastructure.
According to the Reading Post, more than 8,000 companies and households in Woodley will be able to access download speeds of up to 40Mbps, which could increase to 60Mbps in the future.
Upload capacity of up to 10Mbps is also included in the technology, and this could rise to 15Mbps.
John Weaver, regional director of the south-east for the telecoms giant, commented: "Households and businesses switching to superfast broadband will soon be experiencing the internet as they have never experienced it before.
"The advent of BT fibre-based broadband in Woodley will support local jobs and the local economy and is a vital part of BT's broadband plans for the region," he added.
The news comes as Welsh Assembly ministers unveil plans to get all businesses in the country connected to next generation broadband by 2015.
