Businesses in Wales which use fibre cables are set to receive next generation broadband by 2016.
This is the promise made by Welsh ministers in a bid to beat European targets for internet connectivity.
Deputy first minister Ieuan Wyn Jones commented: "To succeed in the modern economy, Wales needs a first-class, globally competitive next generation broadband network. That is why we have set a target of getting next-generation broadband in all Welsh homes and businesses.
"Next generation broadband is a key part of this vision and the formal procurement process is now underway," he added.
Under the plans, all households in Wales will also experience next generation broadband by 2020.
This involves offering access to the internet at a minimum speed of 30Mbps.
Meanwhile, the town of Hinckley in the Midlands has received 100Mbps broadband thanks to Virgin Media's rollout of the ultrafast technology, the Hinckley Times has reported.
