Verizon has supplied its fibre cable technical expertise to the research and education network Janet UK.
The advice and expertise will support the network with the goal of letting Janet users leverage 100Gbps transmission capabilities.
Michael Bauer, director of European network planning for Verizon, says the project represents a "great opportunity" to share its vast knowledge and help the UK academic community.
Additionally, Janet's other technology partners for the 100Gbps network include Alcatel-Lucent, Ciena and Juniper Networks.
Jeremy Sharp, head of Janet's Strategic Technologies division, commented: "We have a strong reputation for serving education and research, and we are widely recognised as having a critical role to play in the UK's future economic prosperity."
He said the group is "committed" to supporting future research and education projects, especially since the economic downturn slashed academic budgets across the UK.
