The UK is set to get a fibre cable broadband boost, chancellor George Osborne announced in his Autumn Statement yesterday.
Plans to build a superfast broadband network spanning ten cities will be funded by an extra £100 million.
London, Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh, along with six yet-to-be-decided cities will be included in the new network.
"See what countries like China or Brazil are building, and you’ll also see why we risk falling behind the rest of the world," Mr Osborne said.
"Our great cities are at the heart of our regional economies. And we will help bring world leading, superfast broadband and wi-fi connections to ten of them – including the capitals of all four nations."
The plans formed part of a proposal to revamp and strengthen the UK's infrastructure, which will also see roads, railways, airport capacity, power stations and waste facilities across the country being improved in the coming years.
