A deal between Virgin Media and TiVo will see the firms work on a converged next-generation TV and broadband offering.
TiVo chief executive officer Tom Rogers said: "This deal underscores TiVo's commitment to expanding its global footprint through strategic alliances with leading international media companies to help them deliver the best in-home entertainment experience for consumers."
Meanwhile, Virgin Media's chief executive officer Neil Berkett said that the superiority of fibre optic leads will allow the firms to offer consumers a significantly more advanced and compelling TV service.
It is believed that the new fibre optic cable co-branded TV service from Virgin Media and TiVo will be made available to customers next year.
The deal follows hot on the heels of a TiVo-Google tie-up which will see the latter expand its activities in the TV advertising market.
Google has described the new deal with TiVo as an "audience research agreement".
