Powernet customers could soon be enjoying superfast broadband through fibre cables, as the company has launched a new fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) offering.
Aimed at businesses, the service provides download speeds of up to 40Mbps and upload speeds of 10Mbps.
Powernet said the service will prove particularly valuable for companies that regularly transfer data via file transfer protocol.
It pointed out that until now, many small businesses had been forced to turn to larger internet service providers (ISPs) to receive superfast speeds.
"The advent of FTTC is game-changing, giving smaller, innovative, service-based ISPs such as Powernet the opportunity to match the broadband speeds offered by the larger ISPs," said founder and chief executive Tony Tugulu.
The launch of the Powernet service comes after BT announced it was on track with its plans to roll out broadband via fibre cables to two-thirds of UK homes and businesses by the end of 2015.
