Plans for Sydney to Indonesia networking cable unveiled - Network Cables

Plans for Sydney to Indonesia networking cable unveiled - Network CablesTwo of Asia-Pacific's biggest telecommunications companies have announced plans to team up to undertake an ambitious cross-continent fibre cable networking project.

At present, Australia's Neztgen operates a long-distance networking cable connecting both sides of its home country, from Perth to Brisbane, via Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.

Now, however, it has unveiled plans to take its networking capabilities to the next level by establishing an undersea link between Indonesia and Australia.

The planned fibre-optic cable route, which would be developed in partnership with Indonesia's PT Nap Infor Lintas Nusa, as well as Matrix Networks from Singapore, would represent the 'missing link' for high-speed networking in the region.

"There is significant demand to introduce a new open access cable system between Singapore and Sydney, supporting a strong business case for board approval," noted Jim Schweigert, executive vice president of Matrix Networks.

According to ZDNet Australia, it is likely that the partners in the project will pitch the idea to major telecommunications carriers at an upcoming regional conference in Hawaii.

At the same time, plans to install a new networking connection between Iraq and the rest of the world have also been put forward by telecoms firms in the Middle East.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19556377-ADNFCR
