New optical cable introduced by Finisar - Fibre Leads

New optical cable introduced by Finisar - Fibre Leads A brand new optical cable has been introduced by Finisar which the company claims can transfer data at 150Gbps.

The new fibre optic lead is based on the industry-standard CXP Form Factor and is aimed at business wanting to boost performance and enhance connectivity.

Finisar, which is a market leader in high-tech fibre optic cable solutions, introduced the 150Gbps C.wire Ethernet solution at the International Supercomputing Conference in Hamburg, Germany.

According to the firm, the increased input/output bandwidth afforded by next generation CPUs, switches and other data centre network equipment means ever faster transfer speeds are expected from modern cabling solutions.

"Finisar's C.wire will drive data centre connectivity to new levels," said Alan Benner, Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM.

"We need solutions like Finisar's active optical cables to drive higher density switches at lower power," he added.

IBM recently announced that it was not looking to branch out into software development to drive its growth, but it would continue making acquisitions.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19232160-ADNFCR
