A set of standards for the manufacture of fibre optic cables created by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has been approved for publication.
The new standard applies to the production of fibre optic leads for use in data centres and local area network solutions.
Network equipment manufacturer CommScope has welcomed the new standards, which are used in its Systimax LazrSpeed 550 device.
The company has been distributing its fibre optic lead solution on a global scale since 2003.
Paul Kolesar, principal systems engineer and standards representative at CommScope Enterprise Solutions, said: "We are extremely pleased that the specifications of the emerging OM4 standards reflect those of our LazrSpeed 550 fibre solution, and that those same standards will help guide future network applications standards that shape the data communications industry."
The LazrSpeed solution is optimised for both OM3 and the emerging OM4 standard and is capable of 10Gbps serial transmission over distances of up to 550 metres.
