Midlands town receives 100Mbps fibre broadband - Fibre Cables Businesses using fibre cables in the Midlands might already be using Virgin Media's 100Mbps broadband service.

The ultra fast fibre optic broadband technology went live in the town of Hinckley last week , making it one of the fastest internet locations in the UK, the Hinckley Times reported.

"We know residents in Hinckley will be blown away by what 100Mb can deliver and the very real impact this can have on day-to-day life, be it uploading family holiday videos to share with friends or downloading an entire music album in a matter of seconds," said Jon James, executive director of broadband at the telecoms company.

"The launch of our 100Mb service in Hinckley is a significant milestone in the UK's broadband evolution and a vivid illustration of the power of our next generation network," he added.

The news comes as phone competitor Vodafone suffered network disruptions after a break in at its data centre in Hampshire saw network equipment destroyed by thieves.
